Unlike your average grinder, our custom-designed head gently removes the raised portion of asphalt or concrete. Rarely is an overlay required as our process applies just enough pressure to keep the remaining material intact. Most often, you are left with a thinner layer of asphalt/concrete still covering the affected area. If the bump is more severe and the root has broken through, we can grind the roots down to make it level the rest of the path. A simple cold patch and your problem are solved. The removal typically gets with 1/8 of an inch of being level. It will likely be another 5-8 years before bumps start recurring.
Bumpy paths are annoying for golfers and users of public path systems. Golfers are upset about uncomfortable rides, and spilled drinks, and often drive around these areas. Cyclists, rollerbladers, runners, and people pushing strollers or wheelchairs have issues safely using bumpy paths, sometimes causing liability issues.
Bumps are also costly for the golf course itself. Expensive machines are bouncing harshly over these bumps, potentially smashing and bashing exposed components. Carts break windscreens and suspension pieces. Mowers knock bed knives out of their settings. This does not take into account the physical toll taken on the backs of people who need to drive on them multiple times every day.
We work normal golf course hours and in 8 hours will typically grind 6-9 holes. We do not sweep or clean up, as you will want us to grind. We ask that you provide fuel for our machine.
Rates for Grinding are $300 an hour or $2200 per 8-hour day. The minimum work rate is 4 hours plus travel costs.
Here you see a low-view example of what the grinding process looks like, with multiple passes over an area to somewhat slowly remove the hump layer by layer. Removal can sometimes be achieved with one slow grind, but it is more difficult to control the depth of the grind.
Sometimes as asphalt ages, or gets placed on too steep of a slope, the danger comes from the surface becoming slippery. Again, using this same head, we can adapt it to roughen the surface, exposing the aggregate and increasing the traction in needed areas.
Just as roots cause bumps in asphalt, they can create unevenness within concrete sidewalks. The disturbances are trip hazards for pedestrians and annoyances for those on wheels. Our machine works on concrete as well and is fairly easy to cost out, just by counting the number of occurrences and inches of depth.
